This is a full-length trial examination paper for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) English Paper 3, scheduled for July 2026. Section 1: Imaginative Composition (20 Marks)

Students choose one of two options:

Section 2: Compulsory Set Text – The Samaritan by John Lara (20 Marks)

Students are required to write an essay supporting the statement: “Leaders who pursue self-interests often subject citizens to a lot of suffering.” They must use appropriate examples from the novel The Samaritan to illustrate their points.

Section 3: Optional Set Texts (20 Marks)

Students choose ONE of the following three options:

• Option A (Short Stories): Based on Charles Mungoshi’s The Sins of the Fathers from the anthology A Silent Song and Other Stories. Students must write an essay supporting the statement: “Parents who are overly controlling make their children fail to realize their full potential in life.”

• Option B (Play): Based on Adipo Sidang’s Parliament of Owls. Students must illustrate the assertion: “When the citizens in Parliament of Owls suffer, the blame squarely lies on the Royal Owl.”

• Option C (Novel): Based on Kazuo Ishiguro’s An Artist of the Floating World. Students must discuss the truth that “sometimes professional duties may land people into troubles,” using illustrations from the life of Masuji Ono.
