📘 Paper 1 – Functional Writing, Cloze Test & Oral Skills (60 Marks)

Functional Writing (20 marks):

• Instructions (12 marks): As school captain, write instructions to your assistant on six things to do while you are away for three days for medical attention

• Thank You Note (8 marks): Write a thank you note to your assistant after returning and finding all instructions followed

Cloze Test (10 marks):

• Complete a passage on Exam Preparation, featuring:

  • Laying a good foundation

  • Understanding facts rather than memorizing

  • Anxiety as a main problem

  • Understanding crucial points before moving on

  • Glossing over facts leads to confusion

Oral Skills (30 marks):

• Poetry Analysis – Read the poem about a desolate lake

📗 Paper 2 – Comprehension, Literary Appreciation & Grammar (80 Marks)

Comprehension (20 marks):

• Analyze an excerpt from Paul B. Vitta’s Fathers of Nations (Comrade Melusi and the visitor)

• Key focus areas:

  • Events after the excerpt (visitor calls waiter, pays bill)

  • Themes (oppression, pain and suffering)

  • Visitor’s name (Tad Longway)

📙 Paper 3 – Imaginative Composition & Set Text Essays (60 Marks)

Imaginative Composition (20 marks):

• Option A: Write a composition beginning: “The moment I saw him, I knew my life would…”

• Option B: Write a composition on: “Technological advancement has impacted negatively on the society, especially the youth.”

Compulsory Set Text – The Samaritan by John Lara (20 marks):

• Essay topic: “Most people use intimidation and blackmail to protect their selfish interests, but more often than not, their plans do not succeed.”

• Key points:

  • Posts – Mayor Mossi intimidates Nicole to delete posts; she refuses; he is arrested

  • Withdrawal – Narine intimidates Nicole to close the App; fails
