📘 Paper 1 – Functional Writing, Cloze Test & Oral Skills (60 Marks)

Functional Writing (20 marks):

Write an investigative report as the student leader in charge of academics:
- Investigate the causes of declining performance in recent examinations
- Provide recommendations on what should be done to address the problem
- Proper report format required (Title, Introduction, Procedure, Findings, Conclusion, Recommendations, Signing Off)

Cloze Test (10 marks):

Complete a passage on the transition to senior school in Kenya, featuring:

📗 Paper 2 – Comprehension, Literary Appreciation & Grammar (80 Marks)

Comprehension (20 marks):

Analyze the poem “You Embarrass Me…” by Everett Standa

📙 Paper 3 – Imaginative Composition & Set Text Essays (60 Marks)

Imaginative Composition (20 marks):

Option A: Write a composition ending with: “…as the principal led me to the police van, I cursed myself silently.”
Option B: Write a composition in support of the statement: “Technology has brought about positive effects among the youth.”

Compulsory Set Text – The Samaritan by John Lara (20 marks):

Essay topic: “Leaders who engage in social evils in the society will try to hide their misdeeds when they are exposed but they fail miserably.” (Focus on Mayor Mossi)
Key points for Mayor Mossi:
- Buying newspapers – Orders Harvester to buy all newspapers to stop damaging headlines, but the Samaritan App continues to operate
- Banning the App – Tries to ban the Samaritan App but fails; documentary evidence continues to circulate
- Pleading with Nicole – Apologizes and pleads with Nicole to delete negative information; she refuses
- Bribery – Tries to bribe Nicole with money; she refuses and threatens to expose him
- Press conference – Calls press conferences to counter allegations; fails to stop the Samaritan
- Blame game – Blames other leaders (Ramdaye, Ted, Seymour) to exonerate himself; Nicole blames him instead

Essay topic: “Family members play an important role when they give wise advice to each other making life bearable.” (Focus on Ono Masuji’s family)
Key points:
- Sachiko – Advises Ono’s father not to discourage Ono from pursuing art
- Michiko – Advises Ono to find a house keeping with their status for children’s marriage prospects
- Setsuko/Ichiro – Advises Ono not to give sake (alcohol) to young Ichiro
- Kenji – Setsuko advises accepting Kenji’s ashes even if mingled with colleagues
