WHAT IS INSIDE?

The Form 2 Christian Religious Education (CRE) syllabus focuses primarily on the life, ministry, and teachings of Jesus Christ as recorded in St. Luke’s Gospel, alongside the early spread of the Church.

1. Old Testament Prophecies About the Messiah

• Old Testament Concept of the Messiah: Expectations of a political vs. spiritual savior.

• Prophecies of Isaiah: The Suffering Servant (Isaiah 53), the Immanuel prophecy (Isaiah 7:14), and titles of the Messiah (Isaiah 9:6-7).

• Prophecies of Jeremiah & Micah: The New Covenant written on human hearts (Jeremiah 31:31-34) and the birthplace in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2).

• Psalms & Nathan’s Prophecy: Messiah as an eternal king from the lineage of David (2 Samuel 7, Psalm 89).

2. The Infancy and Early Life of Jesus

• Annunciations: The birth foretold to Zechariah (John the Baptist) and Mary (Jesus).

• The Births: Birth of John the Baptist and Jesus; the song of Mary (Magnificat) and Zechariah (Benedictus).

• Early Events: Circumcision, presentation at the Temple, Simeon and Anna’s prophecies, and 12-year-old Jesus in the Temple.

3. The Galilean Ministry

• Preparation: Ministry of John the Baptist, the baptism of Jesus, and the three temptations in the wilderness.

• Rejection at Nazareth: Jesus reads Isaiah 61 in the synagogue and faces rejection.

• Calling of Disciples: The miraculous catch of fish and the appointment of the 12 Apostles.

• Teachings & Works: The Sermon on the Plain, beatitudes, healing miracles (paralyzed man, centurion’s servant), and raising the widow’s son at Nain.

4. The Kingdom of God

• Parables: The Sower, the Mustard Seed, the Good Samaritan, the Prodigal Son, and the Rich Man and Lazarus.

• Miracles over Nature: Calming the storm, feeding the 5,000, and walking on water.

• Mighty Works: Transfiguration of Jesus, exorcisms (Gadarene demoniac), and healing the woman with the issue of blood.

5. The Journey to Jerusalem

• Cost of Discipleship: Radical commitment required to follow Jesus.

• Teachings on Prayer: The Lord’s Prayer, the persistent friend, and the Pharisee and tax collector.

• Reaching the Outcast: Encounter with Zacchaeus the tax collector in Jericho.

6. Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus

• Triumphal Entry & Cleansing: Riding into Jerusalem and driving merchants from the Temple.

• The Last Supper: Institution of the Lord’s Supper and Judas’s betrayal.

• Trials & Execution: Arrest in Gethsemane, trials before the Sanhedrin, Pilate, and Herod, followed by the Crucifixion on Golgotha.

• Resurrection: The empty tomb, appearance to disciples on the road to Emmaus, and the Ascension.

7. The Growth of the Early Church

• Day of Pentecost: Outpouring of the Holy Spirit and Peter’s sermon.

• Unity & Fellowship: Life among early believers (sharing property, prayer, breaking bread).

• Spiritual Gifts: Paul’s teachings on spiritual gifts and unity in the Body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12).
